For all of you nature lovers, this park is a place you must visit. Richmond’s hidden gem: Iona Beach is where the Fraser River meets the Strait of Georgia.
A peaceful retreat from the city; the natural area boasts a lot of wildlife, as well as many hiking and biking trails.

Located just north of the YVR Airport, the beach is certainly a perfect place for observing planes passing by overhead. It also sits in the midst of the Pacific Flyaway, which makes it a great spot for watching thousands of migrating birds.

The dog-friendly park features 13-kms of walking trails (mostly along the beach) in addition to 4-kms of biking trails.
Please note however there are two areas where dogs are not allowed: the ponds and areas surrounding them on the park’s east side. Dogs are also not permitted along the foreshore between Iona Jetty and North Jetty. These are both areas with high value as wildlife habitat. All other areas in this regional park are designated as leash-required.

The park merges sea to sky with its Iona Jetty. The walkway is 4-kms long, allowing you to wander out or bike along the Strait of Georgia, feeling as if you’re one with the water as a result.

The beach area is long, mellow and usually fairly quiet—minus the sounds of planes flying overhead of course. It also has picnic tables, bike racks and lots of parking.
