Step into the enriching world of Spirit of Math (SoM), where high-performing students from Grade 1 to Grade 10 in Metro Vancouver come to excel and challenge themselves in mathematic. With locations in Vancouver, West Vancouver and Richmond, SoM offers a unique after-school experience designed for motivated learners who aspire to reach the top of their class and beyond.
Release the Genius
Spirit of Math (SoM) is renowned for its innovative approach to math education, and their expansion into Vancouver brings these cutting-edge programs and summer camps to new students. The Vancouver campuses are part of SoM’s broader network, which serves over 9,000 students across Canada, including Toronto, Calgary, Winnipeg, and through online platforms. This expansion introduces Vancouver students to a curriculum that has been honed over 20 years, integrating real classroom experiences and the evolving needs of students.
In Vancouver, students now have the opportunity to excel in national and international math competitions like CNML, Mathematica, and Math Challengers, thanks to a curriculum designed to build both hard and soft skills. The Vancouver programs, like those in other cities, are built on four key pillars: drills, core curriculum, problem-solving, and cooperative group work. This structured yet flexible approach ensures that students not only master complex mathematical concepts but also develop essential life skills such as perseverance, discipline, and teamwork.
By focusing on these core elements, SoM Vancouver aims to nurture well-rounded individuals prepared to tackle academic challenges and succeed in various aspects of life.
Exciting Summer Programs
This summer, they are excited to offer three distinct summer camps tailored to different grade levels, each designed to provide a stimulating and enjoyable learning experience:
West Vancouver Campus
Grades 2-3: Basic Skills & Problem Solving I
Prepare for the upcoming school year with a refresher course that introduces new students to the dynamic SoM classroom environment. Topics include addition and multiplication drills, number theory, mental math, and a variety of problem-solving exercises such as counting shapes and data problems.
Grades 4-6: Basic Skills & Problem Solving II
Build on foundational math skills with integer drills, number theory, and
problem-solving topics such as Venn diagrams and divisibility rules. This refresher course is perfect for new students eager to experience the Spirit of Math methodology.
Grades 7-9: Probability
From basic concepts to advanced permutations and combinations, this course covers essential probability topics not typically taught during the school year. Daily multiplication drills and competition problem sets ensure a thorough and engaging learning experience.

Grades 2-3: Graphing & Discovering Patterns
Dive into the fascinating world of graphing and patterns. Students will learn to use Cartesian coordinates to plot points and create drawings. They will also learn about the Tower of Hanoi, circle chord patterns, and the Fibonacci sequence, all while engaging in daily math problems and drills.
Grades 4-6: Golden Ratio and Contest Prep
Uncover the mysteries of the golden ratio and its natural occurrences. This course also focuses on preparing students for upcoming Mathematica competitions with rigorous drills and daily math challenges.
Grades 7-9: Transformations
Explore translations, reflections, rotations, and dilations in this comprehensive course on transformations. Previously taught in evening classes, this particular subject has been enhanced to include new senior grade material.
